Road Trip Playlist
We Gonna Jam Out
…because it’s necessary
Today, my girl Jazz and I, are going on a much needed road trip for Renee’s bridal shower. The best part is, no kids! I love my nephews to the moon in the alternate universe and back (yeah, that’s pretty far) but I need this and Jazz needs this. GIRLS TRIP! The last trip Jazz and I took was all the way back in 2011, yeah, 8 years ago and long over due. I went out to San Fransisco with her to visit her mama and then we coasted down 101, to San Pedro, to visit some of her high school buddies. I hadn’t been to the ocean since I was 3, maybe? I was born in California but hardly remember it. And I rarely travel because I’m a starving artist and college was no exception. Point is, that trip meant the world to me. Yes, Jazz and I were already besties but we became sisters that week (cue audience “aww”). I think it was my first trip without family too. So once again people, I felt like a super cool adult traveling with my homie on Spring Break.
The one memory that stands out the most from that trip is me getting way too drunk off Coronas with Malibu shots (in the beer) and some guy was chasing us around like a drunk puppy with acid washed jeans (bro… get some new jeans). We were leaving the bar and this dude tried to get in the car, but thankfully Jazz’s mom stepped in and gave this bro-dude the ultimate wedgie with his nasty acid washed whatever they were. I wouldn’t even classify them as jeans because they were also bedazzled with all the things. We finally got back to her mom’s apartment, safe at last from all the bro-dudes [throw up emoji]. We were drunk, so… we decided to put on a fashion show for her mom and felt that we should only wear the vintage scarves we bought that afternoon because we made them into dresses [princess emoji]! Can’t show you those pics, sorry. Thus, the drunken bestie selfie featured for this post. I can’t forget about the next day either… exorcist status all the way [freaked out OMG emoji]. I can’t drink, you guys. Again, Jazz’s mom saved me so I could enjoy the rest of vacation. Thanks Mama Rose! [thumbs up emoji]
My two favorite memories from that trip are being with my sista-from-anotha-mista (duh) and snapping double exposures on 120 film with my Holga (toy camera that every film lover should have because toys are fun, just saying). These images are still some of my all time favorites that I’ve taken. They aren’t precise, tones are off, detail is out of focus and the process is unpredictable… But I had that creative high when I took them. Even when I was back in Colorado developing the film, I remember I was so excited and anxious to see how they turned out. I fell in love with every imperfection and chemical burn as I took the film out of the drying chamber and laid the rolls on the light table (not the best at throwing 120 on a developing reel [nervous smile emoji]). Shooting with toy cameras is kind of like life– imperfect, bittersweet, unpredictable, learning to let go or just learning to go with flow. And the end result is always something beautiful. (I feel like there should be a “Walk Hard” movie reference here… [hmm? Emoji])
This month has been difficult, you guys. Not just in my life, but for those that are close to me as well. So, believe when I say this road trip is much needed as well as a soundtrack for our adventure. This playlist is bittersweet at times for healing purposes but also, we’re gonna jam the fuck out. So whether you’re trekkin’ it across the country or sitting in your backyard this weekend, just feel the warm weather, let go of your worries and jam out. Because sometimes that’s all you can do.
This playlist is super long and live for the weekend. We will be adding some songs along the way and the playlist has no specific order. So tell us what your go to road trip song is in the comments below. We’ll throw it on the playlist!
Here we go! (Pressing play… wait, shuffle.. yeah [sunglasses emoji])
