Last blog I talked about self care in the basic needs, food, shelter, sex, etc… Days vary from day to day, hour to hour, even minute to minute. Our moods, thoughts, feelings, and more are all affected by our outside environment, inside hormones, a fight from last week, a memory, a smell, chemicals in our brain, our genes, and so much more!!
Ever have a day where getting out of bed feels impossible and then you do get out of bed and just have to survive for the day? Did I drink any water? Have I ate anything that was nutritional for my body or just crap? Did I brush my teeth? Your body aches, your energy is deflated, and you are just feeling off and not good.
These are the days when we can say self care depends on who we are and what we need. On a day like I described above self care could look like taking a day off from life, catching up on much needed rest, taking a break from the social world around us and just being. Acknowledging that we are having a hard day is important and taking care of ourselves in that day is equally important. However, we have to be careful of creating a pattern. Allow yourself to be in that hard place for a day, maybe two, but then try to bring yourself into a different day. Easier said than done, but we don’t want to live in a depressive state if we can help ourselves.
Pulling ourselves out of a hard day, start easy. Drink a glass of water or have a cup of tea. Take a shower or take a bath. Choose to wear something comfortable both physically and emotionally. Set an easy agenda day, do the bare minimum. Eat something or anything. We need energy and we get our energy for our bodies in food and water. Get to bed early and remember tomorrow is a new day. You can do this. Be intentional, stay grounded and remember your goals! You got this!!
